Main Street Revitalization Project Set to Begin

What started as a dream 7 years ago is now coming to fruition. In 2011, a small group of community member volunteers (Jack Wilson, Lisa Floyd, and Tim McClintick) visited several communities to around Central Indiana. The goal was to see what had worked successfully in other communities to bring together the various local resources. A common thread was seen in successful communities that had joined Indiana Main Street. Participation in the Main Street program provides opportunities to network with other communities as well as compete for Federal block grants administered by the state.

The group determined that Pendleton would be a good fit for Main Street since historic preservation was a main focus of the program. Main Street Pendleton (MSP) was formed in 2012 and its main area of focus is the downtown business district. The organization worked with the Town of Pendleton to obtain a grant for completion of the 2015 Downtown Revitalization Plan. This plan then qualified the Town to apply for the Main Street Revitalization Program (MSRP) grant which provides significant grant funding for renovation work. In 2017, Pendleton was awarded a $500,000 grant to help with the cost of renovating the facades of 5 buildings in the downtown area. Main Street President, Jack Wilson, said that he is "excited to see their efforts finally bringing a significant change to the downtown area."

Main Street Pendleton took on the daunting task of obtaining the grant, totaling $500,000 to put towards the facade renovations downtown Pendleton. Now that their part of the process is complete they are handing the baton off to the Pendleton headquartered construction company, RenCon Services, Inc. RenCon was founded in 2008 by Shane Skinner and Jeremy Bergunder and has quickly become one of the area's most sought after renovation and construction companies for both commercial and residential construction.

RenCon is slated to begin this monumental renovation project this month with a goal of completion by years end. We are confident that they will do a phenomenal job and are excited for them to begin the process of renovating and improving some of our most time-honored buildings.
